Creating a Test
Online tests can be created and published for review purposes or to assess student comprehension.
Various question types are available, such as multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank.
Options like number of attempts, randomization, time limits, and due dates can also be set.
Steps for Creation

Click ⊕ in Course Content and select [Create] from the menu.

On the panel that appears, select [Test] from Assessments.

Enter the test name in the textbox at the top.

Click ⊕ to choose questions from the menu.

Click the gear icon to open Test Settings. Click [Save] when configuration is complete.
Question Types
There are 8 types of questions available.
Multiple types can be combined in a single test.
Essay-type questions must be graded manually.
In Ultra Course View, some formats such as file uploads, Likert scale, and sentence completion are not supported.

To create a binary (2-option) question other than True/False, use a Multiple Choice with two options.

Test Settings

Due Date: Set or choose "No Due Date"

Maximum Score

Automatically calculated by question totals. Change by adjusting each question’s points.
Anonymous Grading

Enable by unchecking "Post Assessment Grades."
Delegated Grading

Assign graders by group if "Delegated Grading" is enabled.
Manual Grade Posting

To manually post grades, disable "Auto Post Assessment Grades."
Submission Display Settings
-
Control when students can view submissions, scores, correct answers, and feedback.
Time Limit
-
Click [Add Time Limit], set limit, then close with ✖.
Click [Save] once all settings are complete.

Configure the settings as needed for when students can view their submissions and which information will be displayed.
Submission View:
-
Sets when students are allowed to view their submitted work.
Automatic Feedback for Questions:
-
Sets when the automatic feedback configured for test questions will be displayed in the submission.
Show Scores:
-
Sets when the score for each question will be displayed in the submission.
Show Correct Answers:
-
Sets whether or not correct answers will be displayed in the submission.
Time Limit:
-
To set a time limit for the test, click [Add time limit] and enter the desired limit.
When finished, close the settings window by clicking ✖.Once all settings are complete, click [Save].
Completion
To publish the test to students, change visibility to [Visible to Students].
To preview the test as a student, click [Student Preview] in the top right.
About Question Banks
A Question Bank is a reusable collection of questions.
Required if using Question Pools in a test.
Creation Steps

Click the link under Question Banks.

Click ⊕ and choose:

New: Manually create questions
-
Import from File: Import ZIP files exported from the Original view
-
Auto-Generate: Use AI to generate questions
-
[When Selecting "New"]

Rename the bank
-
Click the pencil icon to add a description
-
Click ⊕ to add questions manually
[When Selecting "Import from File"]

Select the ZIP file and click Open
-
Incompatible types will be noted

Click imported bank to view contents

Click ⊕ to add more questions
[When Selecting "Auto-Generate"]

Modify description and question count if needed

Click [Generate]

Check boxes next to desired questions

Click [Add to Bank]
Previewing Tests as a Student
Use [Student Preview] to simulate the student experience.
Even when hidden or restricted, you can verify how tests appear.
If the test is Hidden from Students or outside of release dates, it won’t show in Course Content.
To allow only your PreviewUser to view it:

Set Release Conditions > Specific Members > Select your preview user (e.g., “YourName_PreviewUser”)
If the preview user is not listed, start and save a preview session first.
Starting Student Preview

Click [Student Preview] (top-right)
-
Click [Start Preview]
-
Open the test
-
Click [Begin Attempt]
-
Answer questions
-
Click [Submit] → Confirm
-
“Submission Successful” dialog appears
-
Click [Close] to return to content
- ※ If students claim they submitted but can’t verify, ask for their confirmation number.
Click the test again → [View Submission] to see what was submitted.
To end preview:
-
Click [Exit]
-
[Save]: Retains submission
-
[Discard]: Deletes submission
- ※ Choose Save to allow grading or feedback review.

Grading and Feedback
Essay-type questions require manual grading.
If "Auto Post Assessment Grades" is off, scores must be posted manually.
Grading Procedures

Click the test in Course Content
-
On the test settings page, click [Submissions]
-
Click a row where status = “Submitted”
-
On the grading page:
-
Locate Essay questions
-
Enter scores (half-width digits)
-
Use [<] to enter feedback
-
Click student names to switch
-
Sort and filter as needed
-
※ If auto-post is off, [Post Grades] becomes active after grading.
Downloading Submissions
-
Click [Gradebook] from the course menu
-
Go to the [Grades] tab
-
Click the test title
-
Click [Download Submissions]
-
If essay responses include attachments, select [Download Submissions] to retrieve files
-
Adjust settings as needed → Click [Download]
-
Files will be saved to your local computer
